Berms-R-Us & Atlantic Packaging Products Ltd.
A recognized leader in responsible recycling since 1965, Atlantic Packaging Products Ltd. knew early on that the growing demand for paper and packaging products could ultimately diminish our natural resources. The company took progressive steps and established recycling, manufacturing and distribution facilities that could recycle post consumer paper waste into new market consumer paper products.
These facilities now consume and recycle approximately 50% of the annual recyclable paper waste generated by households and businesses in Ontario per year (approximately 450,000 tonnes) that would otherwise end up in landfill sites.
Under a joint Certificate of Approval issued to our CSTN Sustainable Technologies Network companies and Atlantic Packaging Products Ltd. in 1991, Berms-R-Us began reclaiming paper fibre biosolids (PFB’S) from Atlantic’s wastewater treatment system in a joint recycling program that looked to extend the lifecycle of organic paper material generated during the paper recycling process.
This alliance of companies in a waste management initiative enabled us to develop Sound-Sorb a carefully prepared material combining prescribed amounts of organic biosolids and mineral soil that can be safely used in the process of building berms. As of today, and as a result of rigorous independent testing for over a decade, Sound-Sorb has been determined to be a non-hazardous material and a C of A is no longer required. (For more information on biosolids and biosolids recycling, go to Recycling.)
Berms-R-Us is proud of its corporate partnership with Atlantic Packaging Products Ltd. Participating in joint recycling initiatives promotes innovative and effective waste management solutions that serve to continue the efforts in preserving our natural resources and protect our environment for generations to come.
